Diabetes distress (DD) refers to the often hidden emotional burdens, stresses, and worries that are part of managing a demanding, progressive, chronic disease like diabetes. DD is a critical, yet often neglected component of comprehensive diabetes care. It is imperative, therefore, that providers who care for patients already experiencing disparities must have high clinical suspicion of DD and be equipped to screen and manage. Please join the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine and the Metro Community Provider Network as they discuss evidence-based approaches to intervention for DD in primary care settings and share lessons learned in the EPiC-4DM Project.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe Diabetes Distress and its effects on patients with disparities;
  • Discuss overlap and distinctions between distress and depression, and evidence-based approaches to intervention in primary care settings;
  • Distinguish various screening tools and appropriate use of screening tools in the FQHC setting; and
  •  Explore the EPiC-4DM project implementation story.
